SPLC's Faux Pas regarding Asatru
Written by Anna Bucci
Tuesday, 09 March 2010
Recently it came to light that the Southern Poverty Law Center's intelligence report, entitled Killer Kindred , described Asatru as "a racist neo-pagan faith". This mischaracterization left a bad taste in the mouths of many Heathens of course. The article is about a prison gang that makes use of Asatru in a twisted racist way. The gang also traffics drugs, commits, murder, theft, runs dog fighting rings, etc. The way the SPLC portrayed Asatru was not only disrespectful to those who actually belong to that faith, but it directly goes against the purpose of the SPLC by promoting intolerance and discrimination of Asatru.

EMAIL to be Added to the Asatruar and Heathen Worldwide Map

The purpose of this map is to help Asatruars and Heathens to find other Asatruars and Heathens in their area, for the purposes of communicating, gathering, and kindred-formation. It should also be useful for Asatruars and Heathens that are moving or traveling into an area. THE MAP IS 2 PAGES NOW, so to see every entry you must scroll all the way down and also look at PAGE 2.

Over 225 individual heathens and kindreds have placed themselves on the Map of Asatruars and Heathens worldwide, and we're been sent stories already of people finding other Heathens in their area they didn't know about before. This note is to let you know about some changes we've had to make.

When we started the Asatruars and Heathens Worldwide Map, you were able to add yourself to the map...but people were accidentally messing up the map while trying to add themselves. It was happening almost every day. To keep this from happening we've changed how you add yourself to the map.

TO BE ADDED TO THE MAP, SIMPLY EMAIL ME at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it with (1) your name or your kindred's name, (2) your city, state, and country, and (3) some form of contact information. I will then add you to the map.

To view the map or to help us spread the word about it, here are some short links:

The Importance of Oaths
Written by Swain Wodening
Wednesday, 03 February 2010
Fifteen hundred years ago, tribes were made up of families and clans. They were a close knit community of people related by ancestry and blood, and if not that, by marriage. Today’s Heathen finds themselves in a different situation. While entire nuclear families being Heathen is becoming more common, most cannot even claim that they have seventh cousins as fellow Heathens. So where does this leave us in the formation of modern day tribes? It leaves us where some ancient Heathens found themselves after losing family to war, famine, or disease. In their day, one could join an artificial family either a dryht (OE) or drött (ON), a warband, or gild (guild). And what bound these groups? Oaths are what bound them together.
